Every day, our skilled operational teams produce more than 27 megalitres of SANS 241:2015-compliant potable water. Our approach is to treat the quality of feedwater provided to a standard that is fit-for-purpose, helping your operation to improve its economic, process and environmental efficiencies. We design plant-specific solutions using the most appropriate and leading-edge technologies. Our aim is to provide the best solution for each application with a keen focus on delivering financially viable systems that provide a maximum return on investment.

Unconventional design? We’ve got you covered

Watercare Innovations does not have a standard solution range, which becomes restrictive. We prefer to design plant-specific solutions using market-leading products and technologies, in combination with our own product range.

Some of our success stories where we’ve added value to the pre-existing water:

  • 25 – 28ML/day treatment of excess mine fissure water to SANS 241:2015 quality potable water utilised by the local community
  • 4.7ML/day treatment of mine impacted water where one water stream is treated for the removal of iron and nickel to a quality that is compliant for environmental discharge, and one stream treated to SANS 241:2015 potable quality
  • 0.3ML/day treatment of borehole water for the removal of iron and manganese to SANS 241:2015 at a residential eco-estate

Water treatment case study: Remotely monitored, potable water production for a residential eco-estate

The eco-estate, based on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast in South Africa, aimed to implement a cost-effective, sustainable drinking water strategy that was aligned with the environmental philosophy of the development.

Our proposal: A turnkey solution for the reticulation of potable water generated from mixed sources, including domestic waste and borehole water.

Phase One was a new water plant for the treatment of borehole water. The new design consists of the following unit operations:

  • Upfront coagulation, pH correction and ozone injection for the oxidation of unwanted minerals dissolved in the water
  • Two-step filtration to remove insoluble minerals and remaining suspended solids
  • Disinfection compliant with SANS 241:2015-1
  • Real-time monitoring of the final product water for pH, conductivity and ORP (oxidation-reduction potential as a disinfection control measure)

The plant now consistently produces water that carries no unwanted dissolved minerals. The turbidity is consistently less than 1 NTU, and the total dissolved solids average 370μg/L. Automation and remote monitoring have reduced the operational labour requirements.
